MAKETANK Projects is a creative space in College Corner, OH
Since December of 2011 we have hosted frequent weekend meals designed to bring the community to our studio–this is less of a project and more of a method of research. We set up a gas griddle in the front of the studio and cook pancakes (some of our best recipes) and “fixins.” Sometimes they are sweet, sometimes savory, and there are always enough for second and third helpings. We recognize that the community members, our neighbors, know the community best, so at these meals we ask questions, expose challenges, propose interventions, hear stories, and work to build trust. Every dialog has created networks, not only between MAKETANK Projects and the community, but also between the community members themselves. The conversations also provide the foundation for our understanding of the challenges in College Corner and even small, rural towns in the midwest in general. With this information we are able to propose creative answers to meet the social needs of our community through artistic practice.
